Why Rip and Burn?
The compact disc, popularly known as the CD, is a digital-optical disc invented to store audio recordings and released in North America in early 1983. The format was later expanded to general data storage. When the CD was first introduced it could hold more data than a personal computer hard drive and became the primary form of music distribution in the US. New terminology arrived with CDs, such as the word "rip" to represent pulling or copying content from a CD to another format, and "burn" to represent copying audio content to a blank CD.
