COLOR: Black Stripes PRODUCT: Accent Pack LENGTH: Short STYLE: Square FINISH: Shiny Why Dream Maker? The first bill proposing a national holiday celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. came to a vote in 1979 but it wasn't until 1983 that the holiday was approved by Congress. In the interim, proponents of the holiday showed up in a big way: Stevie Wonder released "Happy Birthday" and a petition for the holiday collected over six million signatures. Passed in late 1983, the inaugural "MLK Day" was celebrated in 1986.
