Why Vague But Exciting?
On March 13, 1989, Tim Berners-Lee pitched a system for sharing information between computers at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. His boss noted that the idea was “vague but exciting.” Teaming up with Robert Cailliau, he refined the project and toyed with names like Mine of Information and Information Mesh before finally settling on World Wide Web. Hard to imagine websites starting with moi. or im. instead of the www. that we’ve come to know and love.
