Why Panic Like it's 1999?
Dubbed the Y2K Panic, fear that the transition to the year 2000 would cause massive computer failures swept the globe. The issue came from older software that used only the last two digits for dates (e.g., "99" for 1999), making people think "00" would be read as 1900, and cause catastrophic errors. As the date neared, governments and businesses rushed to fix millions of lines of computer code, fearing major disruptions. But when January 1, 2000 came, not much happened. Most systems were updated, and the few that weren’t caused little to no issues, making Y2K the most over-hyped, non-event of the millennium.
