When Sonny Bono and Cher divorced in 1975, it marked the end of one of pop culture’s biggest power couples. Their hit TV series, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, had already collapsed after their separation. But in true showbiz fashion, the pair reunited on television the very next year for The Sonny & Cher Show—greeting each other with an awkwardly polite handshake instead of the flirtation fans were used to seeing.
