Why Do It?
Before disco clubs exploded across America, the Hustle was already tearing up dance floors in the Bronx. Producer and songwriter Van McCoy saw the craze firsthand and rushed to write a song inspired by the dance. The result was “The Hustle,” a disco anthem so catchy it shot to No. 1 in 1975, despite it’s lyrics containing only four words. Most of the song is instrumental, proving that sometimes all you really need is a beat people can strut to in platform shoes.
