Why The Seven Jewels?
The Seven Jewels (often referred to as the "Seven Jewels of Alpha Phi Alpha") is a term used to honor the founding members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African American men. The fraternity was founded on December 4, 1906, at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The Seven Jewels were not just founders of a fraternity, but they laid the groundwork for a legacy of service, brotherhood, leadership, and advocacy for the advancement of African Americans. Alpha Phi Alpha has since grown into one of the most prominent and influential Greek-letter organizations, and it has been instrumental in promoting African American leadership in various spheres of society, including politics, education, and civil rights.
