Why Mind the Gap?
Oswald Laurence, the man behind the iconic “Mind the gap” announcement at the London Underground (aka The Tube), passed away in 2007. His voice kept echoing through London’s Underground at Embankment station, even after most stations switched to new recordings. Years later, when transit employees tried to replace it, his widow stepped in with a heartfelt plea. They dug up the original tapes and restored his voice, so now, with every 'Mind the gap,' London keeps a little love story on the rails.
