Why Over-Employed?
Walt Disney World’s 100-acre Magic Kingdom opened to the public on Friday, October 1, 1971. The company deliberately opened the park on a weekday in the offseason in order to avoid the mayhem of swarming crowds that had plagued Disneyland’s opening. Well, mission accomplished? The public was afraid of that too… and opening day brought a mere 10,000 visitors to the park. Turns out that the 5,000 employees staffed that day was a bit excessive.
