Why Shakin' the Shell?
Before there was Bjork in a swan dress or Gaga wrapped in lunch meat, there was Lil’ Kim in a purple sequined shell-shaped pasty. At the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards, Mary J. Blige, accompanied by Lil’ Kim, introduced Diana Ross as the “original diva of R&B.” After joining them on stage, Ross was distracted by Lil’ Kim’s outfit, which exposed her left breast completely, other than the aforementioned pasty. In a moment that she (and everyone else) remembers as her most iconic, Lil’ Kim was jiggled by Diana Ross, who reached over, lifted Lil’ Kim’s arm and bounced her breast for the audience.
