Why Tomorrow the World?
In 1971, Al Bernardin, a McDonald’s franchisee, began experimenting with new menu items for his locations in Fremont, CA. He introduced the Quarter Pounder to meet customer demand for a larger hamburger patty than McDonald's standard burger. Thrilled with the response to his new offering, Bernardin started using the slogan, “Today Fremont, tomorrow the world.” He was right. In 1973, the Quarter Pounder was officially added to the American menu, and later introduced internationally. In some other countries it is known by different names, such as the Royal Cheese or the McRoyale.
