Why Where's the Flame?
The ubiquitous Pez dispenser we find today shaped as Santa stuffed into our Christmas stockings was actually created in 1948 as a smoking deterrent. The original container was purposely designed to look like a cigarette lighter, allowing users, with just one hand, to easily dispense a breath-freshening candy instead of a flame. Turns out, however, that, while it may have improved breath odor, it did nothing to reduce smoking habits!
