Why Can't Taco-Bout It?
1999’s The Blair Witch Project became one of the most successful independent films ever. Presented as found footage from a group of missing students making a documentary about the Blair Witch legend, the film blurred the line between fiction and reality. For a while after the release, it was unclear if the actors were real missing people, which was the filmmakers' intent. During filming, actors stayed in character, using their real names and improvising a script, which often led to confusion. To signal when they were breaking character, they chose the safe word “taco.”
