Why Not For the Birds?
In 1976, the Mars company eliminated the red version of M&M's because of a Russian study linking red dye to cancer. Fortunately, after almost a decade of research showing no such linkage, the FDA granted a reprieve to red M&M's, and the red ones joined their friends once again. However, the red dye controversy continues for bird enthusiasts who insist red dye IS unsafe for hummingbird consumption. The moral: don't share your M&M's with your flying friends.
