Televangelist Jim Bakker and his wife, Tammy Faye, ruled the PTL (Praise the Lord) Club and the PTL Satellite Network for 13 years. However, his career bit the dust in 1987, when it was discovered that he had made a $279K payoff to a church secretary, Jessica Hahn, who alleged he had sexually assaulted her. Tammy Faye stood by Jim Bakker through the scandal, including several infamous instances when she cried on camera, but eventually divorced him while he was serving his 45 year sentence for fraud and conspiracy (he served 5 years total).
