Why No More Manne-Cans?
Due to strict broadcasting restrictions, prior to 1987 bras could not be shown on live models in television commercials. Instead, they had to be modestly displayed on mannequins, and the mannequins had to be headless or armless. But on May 4, 1987, Playtex aired the first live model in a bra in a daring commercial. Real boobs on the boob tube! A CBS spokesman, George Schweitzer, said the network found the Playtex spots ''well done, tasteful and not exploitative.''
