Why The Measure Measure?
In December 1975, President Ford signed the Metric Conversion Act, setting up a plan for the U.S. to gradually shift from the confusing Imperial System of measurement to the widely used Metric System. It was a nice idea… that went nowhere. Today, the U.S. is still hanging onto inches, pounds, and gallons while basically everyone else on Earth uses the metric system. Maybe someday we’ll get on board and catch up, but for now we’re still a few miles (or…err… kilometers) behind.
