Why The View from Venus?
In the heat of the space race, the Soviet Union pushed aggressively to explore our twin planet Venus. But the Morning Star proved far more hostile than expected, making exploration rather difficult. In 1975, Venera 9 became the first spacecraft to both orbit Venus and land on its surface. Battling crushing pressure and extreme heat, Vanera 9 returned the first image from the surface of another planet, revealing a stark, alien landscape and marking a huge milestone in our exploration of the final frontier.
