Why Threw An Ele-Fit?
When the original The Price is Right aired in 1956, the producers often offered a “bonus” prize along with the regular prize. One day, a Texas contestant who won a grand piano was offered the bonus prize of an elephant, to “provide a supply of ivory for the keys.” The producers, of course, had no intention of actually gifting him an elephant and instead offered an equivalent $4000. However, the Texas farmer refused the cash, figuring an elephant could provide him with a steady supply of fertilizer. He insisted he wanted the elephant. The producers finally caved and purchased an elephant from Kenya and had it shipped to the farm!
